They provide motivated people with the skills and resources of business, rooted in community and moral leadership, inspiring the world to create solutions to poverty.

The East Africa Acumen Fellowship is a demanding leadership program that unites a group of exceptional people tackling poverty issues and provides them with the community, knowledge, and abilities to enhance their leadership and increase their influence to bring about significant change in East Africa.

Upon program completion, fellow candidates become members of the Foundry, a network of like-minded individuals working across industries and regions to create a world founded on dignity.

Being a part of this multicultural group dedicated to exchanging knowledge and insights, they have access to funding, mentoring, and lifelong learning as part of a lifetime support system for enacting social change.

Fellowship Curriculum

Highlights of the fellowship curriculum are listed below:

  • Management of polarities: develop the capacity to lead successfully in the face of conflicting but interrelated values.
  • Explore the concept of a just society and the ethical and historical basis of social change by reading classic and modern works by philosophers including Amartya Sen, Dr. Martin Luther King, Ursula K. LeGuin, Chimamanda Adichie, and Plato.
  • With adaptive leadership, you may embrace the long process of significant change and learn how to navigate uncertainty to accelerate change at the individual, organizational, and societal levels.
  • Authentic Voice: Gain the ability to narrate poignant tales that inspire people to take action and bridge divides.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The fellowship seeks out “builders” who are tackling the issues associated with poverty. Builders include corporate or government sector intrapreneurs as well as founders, CEOs, and senior leaders (COO, MD, etc.) in for-profit, nonprofit, or hybrid social enterprises. Although these titles give an idea of the kinds of roles fellows can play, what really counts is the influence you’ve had and the things you’re building.
  • In addition to having a minimum of five years of professional experience, applicants must be able to show that they are committed to finding solutions to poverty.
  • To obtain support from the Foundry, applicants must show that they are able and willing to provide (contributing their knowledge, experiences, networks, and/or ideas).
  • The ability to engage in English, a dependable internet connection, and complete availability for the duration of the program are requirements for applicants.

The purpose of the application is to learn more about you, your influence and work, and your preparedness for the program. They advise you to begin applying as soon as possible.
