As the direct offspring of the jazz ambassador’s initiatives of the 1950s, AMA is a living example of the effectiveness of cultural diplomacy as a means of fostering human understanding via the universal language of music.

American Music Abroad (AMA) Program 2024-2025 (Funded)

AMA is seeking bands (3–5 members) to apply for our 2024-2025 season. All genres are welcome!

Ten brands, each consisting of three to five members, will be chosen for the 2024–2025 tour season based on their exceptional musical talent, performance and educational programming aptitude, and ability to adapt to a wide range of worldwide audiences. Based on band availability, the 10 chosen bands will take part in a 17–21-day worldwide tour that will visit one to three countries between September 2024 and July 2025.

A-cappella, country, hip hop, rap, rock, indie, classical, Latin, rhythm & blues, soul, jazz, broadway, gospel, blues, bluegrass, cajun, folk, native American, indie rock, jazz, punk, zydeco, and more are among the many musical genres they embrace.

The historic heritage of musical diplomacy in the U.S. Department of State will continue to be sustained if chosen bands collaborate with U.S. embassies across the globe to create programming that bridges cultural gaps.

Selected from online applications, 25 semi-finalist bands will take part in auditions in either New York City or Las Vegas. Ten bands will be chosen to take part in the 2024–2025 AMA Tour Season after being granted a 15-minute audition window on the day of their choice (March 4–7, 2024).
