Arthur F. Burns Fellowship Programme 2024 (funded)

Twenty talented journalists from Germany, the US, and Canada have the chance to travel to a partner nation and work there on a professional and personal level thanks to the Arthur F. Burns Fellowship program.

During two months, fellows are employed by a host media organization of their choice, where they get experience in foreign news operations and work as foreign correspondents for their home media.

Through the fellowship, journalists can undertake in-depth reporting and get firsthand knowledge of the politics, business, and culture of the host nation while fully integrating into the host newsroom’s daily operations.

The program was first established in 1988 to strengthen transatlantic ties and enhance German journalists’ awareness of US affairs. The initiative evolved into a genuine bilateral exchange between the two nations in 1990. Journalists from Canada were added to the program in 2013. Its objectives are to better cover transatlantic news and to assist gifted journalists.
