Once again, what is the Facebook marketplace? The Facebook marketplace is a place or platform on the Facebook social media platform where users can sell and buy items. Facebook marketplace, therefore, is a Facebook feature since it exists within the Facebook social media platform. This very feature works like other online marketplaces you know about. You cannot just only do the business of buying on this place, but you can also sell on it. One very important aspect f this feature on this social media platform I like a lot is the fact that the items sold on the platform are sold by Facebook users and not Facebook itself.
Since the inception of this Facebook feature, it has continued to grow from one level to another. Although the Facebook marketplace feature is not yet available to all regions where people can get access to Facebook, it’s still one of the best out there. I think Facebook is one of the few social media platforms with such a feature like this. I think the other social media platforms with a marketplace feature or a feature that lets users list items for sale are still owned by Facebook which is Instagram and WhatsApp.
How To Access The Facebook Marketplace
Access to the Facebook marketplace is free and easy. Anyone can list items for sale on the platform and anyone can also buy from sellers on the platform. But here is one dent to this Facebook feature. As important and effective as the feature is, it is not yet available to all regions of the world with access to Facebook. The Facebook marketplace feature exists as an icon on our Facebook account pages. To therefore access this feature, you will have to click on the marketplaces icon on your Facebook account page. On the classic Facebook page, you can find this icon on the left column of any Facebook page. On the new Facebook, you will find the marketplace icon at the top of your Facebook account page. to access the page, all you need to do is to click on this icon. Or you can go to www.facebook.com/marketplace.
How To Buy On The Facebook Marketplace
You can purchase items on the Facebook marketplace just the same way you do on most online marketplaces. To buy something on the Facebook marketplace;
Computer
- On your Facebook account newsfeed, click on the marketplace icon.
- Browse through and select the item you want to buy.
- Click on the message tab to send a custom message to the seller of the selected item or click send to send a message to the seller that says, is this available.
Android App
- Login to your Facebook account.
- Tap the menu icon in the top right of the Facebook newsfeed page.
- Scroll down the menu list and tap on the marketplace icon and option. If you do not find the marketplace icon on the list, tap the see more option.
- Select an item to buy.
- Tap message to send a custom message to the seller.
- Or tap send to send a message that says, ‘is this available’.
iPhone App
- Open the Facebook app.
- Tap the menu icon in the bottom right.
- Scroll down the page and tap on the marketplace icon.
- Select and tap the item you want to buy.
- Tap message to send a custom message to the seller. Or tap send to send a message that says ‘is this available’ to the seller.

How To Make A Listing On Facebook
If on the other hand you wish to sell on this platform and you do not know how to go about it, here are the steps needed in creating a listing on Facebook;
- Click on the marketplace icon on your newsfeed.
- On the marketplace page, click on the +create new listing button and then click item for sale.
- Next enter information of the item you want to sell by clicking on the add photos tab to upload a photo of an item you want to sell from your device.
- Enter other additional info about the item you are selling. if you wish to mark the item as free, you will have to enter 0 as the price for the item.
- Click on next and if the next tab is greyed out, go back and ensure that you provided and entered all the necessary pieces of information required.
- Lastly, click ‘publish’ to post your listing.
