Globally Public Policy New Voices Fellowship Program 2024

Racially underrepresented communities in the field of public policy are supported and elevated by PPNV. While acknowledging the structural obstacles that impede full representation and involvement in careers focused on policy, we engage students of color in that quest.

Each fellow is intended to be paired with a paid internship at a PPNV partner organization through the program. Fellows are encouraged and guided through the application process to increase their chances of being chosen and extended an offer of summer employment, even if securing an internship is not guaranteed. PPNV does not directly provide fellows or scholarships with funding.

Through this program, fellows can access career prospects and expand their network, which will help them succeed professionally overall in a field where people of color face systematic barriers to entrance.

Structure for the Globally Public Policy New Voices Fellowship Program 2024

The PPNV 2024 Fellowship will start with five fellows designated as group leads (with an extra question on a short essay), and the remaining 35 fellows will be split up into smaller groups. Group leaders will

  • Oversee and monitor their members’ participation.
  • Get the chance to facilitate small group activities and co-lead a cohort Connect session.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for their group with Caroline, the global program lead, who will be available to all fellows for the duration of the fellowship.
  • On request, provide more pre-arranged forms of support for the fellowship.

Eligibility Criteria

Open to graduate students studying public policy who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC) and who hold valid U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or DACA. This includes African American students who are black, students who are Latino/a, students who are Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI), and students who have tribal citizenship or mentorship (such as members of unrecognized Native American or Alaska Native tribes or citizens of the state- or federally-recognized indigenous tribes). About forty students will be awarded the PPNV 2022 fellowship, which upholds gender purity.

Application

To be considered for the PPNV Fellowship, candidates must be willing to:

  • Engage in one or two virtual events each month.
  • Displaying an inner curiosity and a readiness to investigate jobs in public policy across industries (including the private sector).
  • Engaging in brief video interviews with employees worldwide and/or submitting videos that they have self-recorded.
  • Completing a written reflection paper at the fellowship’s conclusion.
  • The PPNV’s dedication to ethnic diversity, community development, and inclusiveness.
  • Exchanging demographic data to help monitor PPNV’s long-term success as a diversity initiative.

In conclusion, the Globally Public Policy New Voices Fellowship Program 2024 is a great opportunity for graduate students from racially underrepresented communities to access career prospects and expand their network.

Through this program, fellows are provided with a one-year fellowship. This is paired with a paid internship at a PPNV partner organization and guided through the application process.  This helps to increase their chances of being chosen and extended an offer of summer employment.

The program aims to support and elevate students of color in the field of public policy. It also helps to acknowledge the structural obstacles that impede full representation and involvement in careers focused on policy.
