Scoville A fellow may decide to work for any one of the 26 participating organizations. The fellows will choose a placement that best fits their interests and the requirements of the host organization with the help of alumni, the board, and staff. Participating organizations offer fellows office space as well as assistance, oversight, and direction in their work. Fellows can engage in research, writing, and organizing to further the objectives of their host group, except for congressional lobbying.

The fellowship’s objective is to give recent graduates the chance to engage with nonprofit, public interest groups that address peace and security issues to develop real-world knowledge and experience.

Benefits of the Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship Program 2024

  • Fellows are compensated with a monthly salary of $3,885, basic health insurance, and travel expenses to Washington, DC.
  • In addition, the program offers $1,000 to each fellow for professional development towards attending pertinent conferences or meetings (which may include lodging, meals, and registration costs) or enrolling in a language or policy course.
  • The program plans social networking events with alumni and sets up meetings between fellows and policy experts. A board member and a previous fellow mentor as well.

Eligibility Criteria 

  • The candidate needs to have graduated recently with a bachelor’s or master’s degree.
  • Possess prior experience with and a keen interest in one or more of the authorized policy topics that the fellowship will be addressing.
  • Outstanding chances for academic success.
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • It is highly ideal to have prior experience with advocacy or public-interest activism.
  • Thinking about a career in academia, the media, public interest groups, or the federal government working on international peace and security issues?
  • Citizens of the United States residing in the country or abroad are eligible to apply.
  • Only non-citizens who are residents of the United States and hold a valid work visa for the fellowship period may apply. Those who are not citizens of the United States and reside abroad are not eligible to apply.
