Illinois Unemployment Debit Card – If you are a beneficiary of the unemployment benefits being received in the state of Illinois for anyone that is out of work you no longer receive your benefit through the debit card. The Illinois Unemployment Debit Card was being provided by KeyBank. I said was because Keybank has stopped providing unemployment benefits cards for Illinois.
Since on the 27th of December 2021 claimants no longer have the option to receive unemployment benefits using a debit card. Instead, they will now receive their unemployment benefits through direct deposit or paper checks. The department continues to pay unemployment benefits as usual but would no longer support paying through debit cards.
Illinois Unemployment Debit Card
As a method of claiming unemployment benefits for everyone that is out of work as a result of any disaster, the Illinois unemployment debit card was made available. This debit card was made available by KeyBank which has decided to stop providing a debit cards for unemployment benefits. Before now all unemployment beneficiaries were making use of a MasterCard from Chase bank.
Which was then replaced with the blue debit MasterCard from KeyBank. However, since Krybank has decided to stop supporting unemployment benefits by no longer providing debit cards payments are no longer made through cards. The only options available to receive payment as of now are by direct deposit or by check.

As a resident of Illinois state, you are entitled to employment insurance which is designed to partially replace lost wages when you are out of work. Everyone that is out of work as a result of an incident such as fire, accident, health and more is entitled to this insurance. It is a state-operated insurance program designed to help people that are out of work.
This program is only designed to work in an emergency where someone is temporary or permanently out of work. People that also work less than full-time because of lack of work are also entitled to make use of this program. Everyone that meets the eligibility requirement of the law, is entitled to have an income while they look for a job. Once a person is accepted to the program benefits are paid regularly.
Eligibility for the Unemployment Benefits – Unemployment Benefits Illinois
In order to be fully accepted into the unemployment insurance benefits program, first of all you need to be eligible. There are certain unemployment eligibility criteria that you would need to meet to be accepted. They are listed below:
- You are unemployed through no fault of your own.
- You were paid $1,600 or more in wages during your base period for insured work.
- You were paid at least $440 of your base period wages at any time during the base period outside the calendar quarter in which your wages were highest.
- You were registered for work with IDES.
- You filed your claim (certified) for the week as scheduled using the automated Tele-Serve system, via the Internet or as otherwise directed by IDES staff.
- You have served one “waiting week.” The “waiting week” is a qualifying period required by law. Benefits are not paid for this week. It is usually the first week for which you file your claim.
- During the week, you were able to work, available for work and actively looking for work. Information Needed to File for Benefits
- Your Social Security Number and Name as it appears on your Social Security card;
- Your Driver’s License / State ID (this will provide your weight, which is required);
- If claiming your spouse or child as a dependent, the Social Security Number, date of birth, and name(s) of dependent(s);
- Name, mailing address, phone number, employment dates, and separation reason for all the employers you worked for in the last 18 months;
o Wage records (W-2 form, check stubs, etc.) from these employers may be necessary.
- If you worked since Sunday of this week, the gross wages earned this week;
o You must report all gross wages for any work performed, full or part-time;
o Gross means the total amount earned before deductions, not “take-home pay”, including wages in the form of lodging, meals, merchandise, or any other form;
o Gross wages must be reported in the week in which they are earned, not the week in which you receive the wages;
o If your gross wages earned in any week are less than your weekly benefit amount, you still may be
eligible to receive a full or partial benefit payment);
- Records of any pension payments you are receiving (not including Social Security);
- If you are not a United States citizen, your Alien Registration Information;
- If you are a recently separated veteran, the Member 4 Copy of the DD form 214 / 215;
o Other copies of the DD Form 214 / 215 are acceptable, but the Member 4 copy is the most commonly
- If you are separated from work as a civilian employee of the federal government, copies of your Standard Form 8 and Personnel Action Form 50.

- Fill in all the necessary details to fill your claim and click on submit.

- Also, read the page and scroll down and click on Upload Proof of Wages.
- Upload your proof and submit.
Unemployment Benefits Payment Method – Unemployment Illinois
Once you have successfully applied to the program and you have been accepted you can now be paid through two different methods. Which are listed below:
- Direct deposit
- Paper check
Unemployment Benefits Sign In
In case you still have your payment method set to the debit card you can easily sign in to your account to change it to either direct deposit or check. It is encouraged that you change your payment method to direct deposit because it is fast and secure and gives you a direct link to your account. Using this method payment is directly sent to your bank account.
So you need to know how to log into your account to change your payment method. To do that follow the below procedure:
- Lunch any browser on your device.
- Go to this link https://ides.illinois.gov/unemployment/payment-methods.html.
- Now on the top right side of the screen click on Sign Into My Account.
- Enter your username and password.
- Click on sign in.
After that tap on the payment method and select direct deposit. Now enter the bank details that you want the benefit payment to be sent to. Once that is done you can now save it you can also decide to select the check method as well.
