James Buchanan Fellowship 2024-2025 (up to $10,000)
The James Buchanan Fellowship, offered by the Mercatus Center, is a one-year fellowship program that is competitive and given to academics in any subject who have just completed their doctoral studies.
With regard to Adam Smith’s political economy and the theories of the Austrian, Virginian, and Bloomington schools of political economics, the fellowship seeks to stimulate critical engagement among early-career researchers.
The James Buchanan fellows will also learn about current applications of these concepts to social science inquiries concerning the institutional foundations and dynamics of social, political, and economic coordination.
James Buchanan fellows participate in conversations on mainstream political economics over two weekends and one week while living at George Mason University (Fairfax, VA) during the academic year.
Every colloquium has a series of texts as its foundation and is enhanced by formal meals, lectures, discussion forums, and hospitality. At the colloquia, scholars from the Hayek program, affiliated scholars, and former recipients of our James Buchanan fellowship lead discussions and take part.
In addition to conducting and participating in cutting-edge research in modern political economics, fellows will become part of a network of Mercatuws students, alumni, and scholars who are qualified to compete for conference and research funding.
