Oxford Reuters Institute Journalist Fellowship Programme 2024-2025

One of the top programs in the world for allowing working, mid-career journalists to take a sabbatical from their day jobs to study journalism in depth is the Rueters Institute’s Journalist Fellowship Program. Most of their fellow journalists are completely sponsored. Also, they give them a stipend to help with living and travel expenses.

You’ll learn more about journalism, the news industry, and your place in it through independent study, seminars, networking opportunities, and conversations with peers. You will apply the knowledge you gain from the fellowship to work on a project in Oxford that will directly affect your career, your newsroom, and the media sector as a whole. This program is intended for editors and working journalists who, after working with the Institute for a few months, want to return to journalism.

Programme Details for the Oxford Reuters Institute Journalist Fellowship Programme 2024-2025

Every year, the institute welcomes about 30 journalism fellows from throughout the globe, all of whom contribute a plethora of knowledge and intriguing perspectives. This is what makes the program special:

  • You’ll be a part of a cutting-edge organisation that influences important media discussions. Factsheets and reports on the primary issues facing the industry are produced by the Reuters Institute.
  • You’ll work for a company that has an international focus. The fellows are journalists who are international in origin. Their experiences working in various nations and mediums are shared, along with ideas.
  • You’ll be a part of one of the best universities in the world. Oxford has an international reputation, top research facilities, ample learning assistance, and unparalleled study resources.
  • With only an hour’s train ride from London, you will have easy access to some of the top news outlets in the world, including the BBC, The Guardian, and the Financial Times.

The majority of the journalists on the show have full funding. The 2,000-pound monthly stipend awarded to successful applicants covers their fees as well as the cost of housing, food, and other living needs.

They will also pay for any visa fees as well as the cost of travel to and from the UK. Throughout the fellowship, fellows should abstain from doing any professional work.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to journalists worldwide, including those from Latin America, North America, Europe, Africa, and the Asia-Pacific area.
  • Five years of journalism experience is a minimum requirement, though in exceptional circumstances, you may be able to prove the same degree of proficiency. Although it is not a barrier to applying, those working in corporate communications, public affairs, or public relations are not accepted.
  • Although there is no test for English language proficiency, you will be able to follow and participate in discussions in the language.
