You’ll find in ReactOS the possibility to move from the book theory to the practical cases- which is the main reason why top-most software companies offer ReactOS Devs jobs opportunities. ReactOS has long been in development since 1996.

In October 2020, it is still considered feature-incomplete alpha software and is therefore recommended by the developers only for evaluation and testing purposes. Moreover, lots of Windows applications are currently working, such as Adobe Reader 6.0 and OpenOffice.

Furthermore, ReactOS is primarily written in C, with some elements, like ReactOS File Explorer, written in C++. The project partially implements Windows API functionality and has been ported to the AMD64 processor architecture.

Also, as part of the FOSS ecosystem, re-uses and collaborates with many other FOSS projects, most notably the Wine project, which presents a Windows compatibility layer for Unix-like operating systems.

ReactOS Features

Our own main features are as follows:

  • it is able to run Windows software.
  • It is able to run Windows drivers.

The software looks like Windows. Also, it’s free and open source.

ReactOS Requirements

Minimum requirements to install ReactOS. Before going into the requirements, do you know you can download a Live ISO of the operating system to be able to use it without having to install it or a BootCD, which is an ISO that can be installed on our computer or in a virtual machine?

Though it only takes about 90MB compressed in ZIP and when unzipped it reaches over 100MB, but nothing compared to Windows, so ReactOS does not need many resources: here are the requirements;

  • CPU x86 or x86-64 Pentium or higher.
  • 64MB RAM (256MB recommended).
  • IDE / SATA hard drive of at least 350MB.
  • Boot partition in FAT16 / FAT32 format.
  • 2MB VGA graphics adapter (VESA BIOS 2.0v or higher).
  • CD ROM.
  • Standard keyboard and mouse.

The software is lightweight and can be installed even on older equipment.

If you want to install ReactOS on your machine, then Boot CD is the right option for you. The Boot CD will guide you to a setup environment, it is now left for you to follow the instructions given on the screen.

However, a Live CD is useful if you don’t plan to keep the software on your computer for a longer period of time. It lets you explore ReactOS in a temporary environment that will be reset in a restart.

Take note; ReactOS is still in alpha and gives no guarantee of stability, the safety of your files, or working at all. To proceed with the installation, click on the link below https://reactos.org/.
