SNAP EBT – What is it all about? First and foremost, the abbreviation SNAP- stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program. While EBT stands for Electronic Benefits Transfer. SNAP is one of the largest federal nutrition assistance programs. It offers benefits to qualified low-income individuals and families through an Electronic Benefits Transfer card. However, the card can be used as a debit card to purchase eligible food in authorized retail food stores.

So, to get SNAP benefits, you must apply in the state in which you currently live. Also, you must meet certain requirements, including resource and income limits. Note; SNAP income and resource limits are updated annually.

Who Is Eligible For the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program?

To qualify for this benefit program, you must live in the state in which you apply and meet certain bank balance limits. However, a household with an elderly (over 60) or disabled household member may have a higher bank balance limit.

If you’re approved for the benefit you will receive the Snap EBT card in the mail 7​-10 days after it is ordered.

How to Check your SNAP EBT Balance By Phone

To check your balance by phone, call the EBT Customer Service number.

After you dial their number, you will need to enter your sixteen (16) digit EBT card number and you will hear your current food assistance or cash account balance(s).
