The UBA Plc Essay Competition 2020 – N6Million Grant For Your Child runs each year, and now in this 10th year, the National Essay Competition is for senior secondary school students in Nigeria. This programme is a part of the UBA Foundation’s Education initiative which is for promoting the reading culture and encouraging healthy and intellectual competition among secondary school candidates in Nigeria and across Africa.

Essay Topic
Here is the 2020 Essay Competition topic;
“Do you think that the lockdown during the Covid-19 pandemic was an essential measure in spite of the hardship it brought economically?”.
“What would you have done differently and why?”.
Number of Awards
Here are the number of awards for the winners of the competition. The first prize for the UBA National Essay Competition is an N2.5 million educational grant, the second prize is N2 million, and the third prize grant is N1.5 million in educational grants respectively.

Selection Criteria and Eligibility
To be eligible for the UBA Plc Essay Competition 2020 – N6Million Grant For Your Child, there are some eligibility requirements you must meet. Here are the eligibility requirements for the students:
- Applicants must be a secondary school student.
- Candidates must submit a handwritten essay (750 words at maximum).
- The students are to submit a passport photograph.
- And also, students must submit a copy of a birth certificate, National ID, or passport.
Selection procedure
After your application, here is the process through which the selection of candidates takes place:
- The entries received for the competition will be reviewed by a distinguished panel of judges made up of professors from reputable Nigerian Universities, which will then shortlist 12 essays for further assessment.
- After this, the second round of competition will involve the 12 finalists who will write a second supervised essay from which the judges will select the three best essays as the overall winners from the 12 finalists emerged from the first round of the competition.

- The secondary school students must submit their completed contract information which includes: Name, age, school, address of the school, telephone number, residential address, and email address.
- Applicants must also attach photocopies of their original birth certificate or international passport data page.
