Academic Requirements
Undergraduates may apply for admission at UCLA as a freshman (first-year) or a transfer student. A freshman is one who completed high/secondary school and has not enrolled in a regular session at any university.
The school does not admit people into an undergraduate program who already has a Bachelor’s degree. And do not admit anyone who has the equivalent of three years (130 quarter-units or more) of transferable university work.
This simply means that you may not disregard your college record and apply as a freshman. Also, all transfer applicants must be at the junior level, meaning that the person must have taken college-level coursework that amounts to 90-130 quarter (60-90 semester) credit units.
Education System Requirements

Language Requirements
Language is another important requirement. Proficiency in the English language is a very important factor to your success at UCLA. This means, if your high school/secondary school education was completed in English, you are automatically considered proficient and you do not need to satisfy this requirement.
Moreover, applicants who completed all or some high school or secondary school in a country where English was not the language of instruction, will be required to show English proficiency if they have had less than 3 years of instruction in English. And to demonstrate English language proficiency, students are required to take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), the IELTS (International English Language Testing Service (IELTS), or the Duolingo English Test (Fall 2021 and 2022 only, under review for Fall 2023).
English test scores: UCLA goes for a competitive score above 100 (with sub-scores above 22) on the TOEFL, 7 or above on the IELTS, or a 120 or higher on the Duolingo English Test (DET).
Nevertheless, if you’re admitted to the school and your native language is not English, you may also be required to take UCLA’s English-as-a-Second-Language Placement Examination (ESLPE) immediately before the term in which you enter.
