The aim of this scholarship is to advance the study of Africa and the African Diaspora through original cutting-edge researches. These researches have practical relevance for social life while also building the theory.
UNILAG African Doctoral Scholarship
For starters, this scholarship is sponsored by the German Research Foundation through its collaboration with the University of Bayreuth. There are also three other African partners to the University of Bayreuth.
The university of LACC (university of Lagos African Cluster Centre) is somewhat interested in Ph.D. students that work within certain areas. Here is a list of some of those areas.
- African History and Politics;
- African Traditional Religion;
- African Herbal Medicine;
- African Philosophy;
- African Languages and Literature, including English and Francophone literature (with special reference to multilingualism, African and African diaspora literature, translation, and early African literary works);
- African Culture and Gender Studies;
- African Musicology;
- Arts and Aesthetics; as well as
- Water, Environment, and Climatic Change in Africa.

Value of the Scholarship
The worth of this scholarship is valued at one million nairas. This simply means the selected candidate/candidates would be given the sum of one million nairas.
This scholarship value would subsist for one year and the recipients of this scholarship are to give assistance to the supervisors with some research work.
Candidates may also undertake some limited teaching duties where necessary.
Requirements for the Scholarship
For you to be able to apply for the UNILAG African doctorial scholarship, you must meet certain requirements. These requirements are indexed below;
- All applicants must be enrolled in a doctoral program at the University of Lagos.
- Preferential treatment would be given to applicants whose work has scaled the pre-APC stage.
The application for this scholarship is also extended to all candidates who are working on research projects that explore a related theme.

The application deadline for this scholarship is December 31st, 2020. Some or all candidates can also be shortlisted for brief interviews.
