What is Genie Plus Disney World? Ever since Walt Disney World introduced Disney Genie+ in 2021, there has been a lot of information to digest. We wanted to try to make learning about Genie Plus (aka Genie+) as easy for you as possible, especially if you’ve never used the service before to tour the parks at Walt Disney World.
What is Genie Plus Disney World?
Disney Genie was put in place at Walt Disney World Resort in 2021. When we say Disney Genie, we’re typically talking about three different things: Disney Genie, Disney Genie+, and Lightning Lanes.
What Is Disney Genie?
Disney Genie is a complimentary trip-planning service that builds a personalized itinerary for you based on your preferences. From more general interests like princesses and Star Wars to specific choices like a favorite Disney ride or must-see show, you tell Genie how you want to spend your day, and it’ll create a custom itinerary with suggestions that will help you spend less time in line and more time having fun.
What is Disney Genie+?
Genie+ is a paid add-on to the free Genie service that gives guests front-of-line access to high-traffic attractions and shows, like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade. The price for Genie+ varies between parks, days, and how busy the parks are on your reservation date.
What are Lightning Lanes?
Lightning Lanes Formerly known as FastPass+ queues, Lightning Lanes are an alternative to stand-by queues with expedited access to select attractions. Lightning Lanes may be accessed via Disney Genie+ or individual Lightning Lane selections.
How Much Does Genie+ Cost?
On the first morning of park-specific pricing, Genie+ service costs:
- $25 for Magic Kingdom or multiple parks
- $24 for Disney’s Hollywood Studios
- $18 for EPCOT
- $16 for Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Prices will vary from day to day and can be found on the resort’s My Disney Experience app. Guests should note that Genie+ can sell out, and not all attractions are included with Genie+. Disneyland also offers Genie+, starting at $25, with the additional perk of unlimited PhotoPass downloads.
How to Purchase Disney Genie+ Service?
Disney Genie+ service is no longer available to purchase as an add-on to new tickets and is only available for sale on the day of your visit via the My Disney Experience app. If you have multi-day tickets or annual passes, you will need to purchase Genie+ for each day that you would like to use it. It becomes available after midnight.
As of June 27, 2023, the pricing for Genie+ is variable by date and park. From the home screen of the My Disney Experience app, click the Genie+ section and select “Get Disney Genie+ Service”. You’ll then be taken to the different price options. You can choose any of the theme parks individually or select the multi-park option (only available to those with park hoppers).
This allows more flexibility in how you want to use Genie+. Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios may cost more due to the number of attractions they offer, though you can save some money now when purchasing Genie+ for EPCOT and Animal Kingdom. If you purchase a single park and then decide you want to park hop and use Genie+ at a second park, you’ll currently need to head to Guest Relations to refund the single park and then purchase a multi-park option.
Note that if any of the individual parks sell out for the day, the multi-park option will not be available for purchase.
What Does Genie Plus Include?
Genie Plus includes the following:
- Lightning Lane Entrances
Genie Plus gets you Lightning Lane access to many of the most popular attractions, including Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Pirates of the Caribbean, Space Mountain, Dumbo, and the Haunted Mansion. Note that some attractions are not included in Genie Plus (more on that below). Genie Plus can be used for park hopping with some timing restrictions
- Audio Experiences
Genie+ gives you another way to experience the park with audio tales. You can listen to behind-the-scenes stories about attractions and park features in select areas of the park. For example, you can hear tales about Cinderella’s Castle at the Magic Kingdom. Genie+ integrates Audio Tales into your Genie itinerary, and you can also find them marked on the park map.
- Disney PhotoPass Service
At both Disney World and Disneyland, Genie Plus scores you augmented reality lenses to make your park visit even more magical. Soon, same-day on-ride attraction photos will be included with the purchase of Genie+ as well.
- Unlimited Disney PhotoPass downloads
PhotoPass photo opportunities are available around the park to capture your memories, but downloading Disney PhotoPass images is not free. With Genie+, you have unlimited PhotoPass downloads. Once downloaded, you can share your favourite shots with family and friends at no additional charge. This is a helpful feature if there’s a seasonal PhotoPass opportunity that you want to keep without Disney’s watermark emblazoned on the photo or if you want a physical reminder of a park visit.
How Does It Work?
Disney Genie service is located in the My Disney Experience app, and you can get the magic started even before you visit the theme parks!
- Be sure you have the latest version of the My Disney Experience app and log in to your Disney account.
- You’ll need both valid admission and a theme park reservation for the same park on the same day, linked to your account in the app.
- Summon the Disney Genie service by selecting the icon on the app’s home screen.
- Choose the experiences you’d most like to have, and then select your interests.
- Once you’ve completed these steps, you will see the My Day section, where you will find planning tools and itinerary recommendations for your visit, and the Tip Board.
- Guests may make their first Disney Genie+ service selection for Lightning Lane entry at 7:00 a.m. on the day of their visit.
- Lightning Lane entry selections are subject to limited availability on the day of your visit.
- Guests may enjoy a Disney Genie+ service at the Lightning Lane entrance once per day.
- Check the tip board periodically for the latest information.
Types of Lightning Lane Entrances
- Lightning Lane Entrances Offered Through Disney Genie+ Service
Purchase the Disney Genie+ service to use the Lightning Lane entrances at select attractions and experiences (subject to change without notice). On average, guests can enter 2 to 3 attractions or experiences per day using the Lightning Lane entrance if the first selection is made early in the day. Guests with valid theme park admission and a theme park reservation for the same park on the same day can purchase Disney Genie+ service on the day of their park visit.
You may purchase Disney Genie+ service by selecting the theme park you are planning to visit that day or selecting the “Multiple Parks” option if you are planning to visit more than one theme park and their ticket or pass includes the Park Hopper or Park Hopper Plus option that day. Guests may then make their first Disney Genie+ selection for Lightning Lane entry starting at 7:00 a.m.
- Individual Lightning Lane Entrances (à la Carte)
Purchase individual—or à la carte—Lightning Lane entry selections for specific attractions that aren’t offered through the Disney Genie+ service (subject to change without notice). Guests of a Disney Resort hotel and other select hotels may make their first purchase at 7:00 a.m. on the day of their park visit. This includes guests of the Walt Disney World Swan Hotel, Walt Disney World Dolphin Hotel, and Shades of Green Resort.
All other guests may make their first purchase when the park opens. For all guests, valid admission and a theme park reservation for the same park on the same day are required.
How to Make a Disney Genie+ Service Lightning Lane Selection
Disney Genie+ service Lightning Lane selections can only be made one at a time. You must redeem an existing Disney Genie+ service Lightning Lane selection or wait 2 hours—whichever comes first—before making another Lightning Lane entrance selection through the Disney Genie+ service. Please note: the 2-hour wait to make another selection begins when the park opens, even if you made your first booking at 7:00 AM.
How to Modify a Disney Genie+ Service Lightning Lane Selection
If you would like to modify your Lightning Lane selection through Disney Genie+ service to a different experience or attraction, reduce the party accompanying you, or choose a different time, here’s how:
- Go to the Tip Board or My Day to view your Lightning Lane entry selection.
- Select the 3-dot menu at the top right of the Lightning Lane entry selection you wish to modify to bring up options.
- Select “Modify Plan.”
- Follow the prompts to select a different time, change to a different attraction or experience, or make changes to your party.
- Select “Confirm Change,” then “Done.”

How Many Rides Will I Be Able to Go on Per Day with Disney Genie Plus?
At Disneyland, you should be able to hit all of the big attractions and many of the smaller attractions in one day using Disney Genie+. The key to getting most of the available attractions done is to stack your reservations for later in the day when the parks are busier and use the standby line in the morning when the parks are less crowded.
At Walt Disney World, Disney states that guests should expect to ride two to three attractions per day using Disney Genie+. While there are some strategies to ride more, this is an average based on guest usage, how busy the parks are on any given day, and ride capacity.
- How Many Attractions Are on Disney Genie Plus at Disney California Adventure?
Disney California Adventure (home to the new Avengers Campus ride based on Marvel superheroes and the adorable Pixar Pier where you can blast through the sky with The Incredibles) has seven attractions available for guests to book via Disney Genie+, including Grizzly River Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout.
