WIN Leadership Africa Accelerator Program: The Women in News (WIN) Leadership Accelerator is an intensive, nine-month career and leadership program designed for journalists and editors in Africa, the Arab Region, and Southeast Asia. Annually, the program accepts 100–150 applicants.

Eligible countries

Women media professionals from the following countries can apply: Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe (WIN Africa), Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine (WIN Arab Region), Myanmar, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia (Southeast Asia) are eligible for the program.

Program Approach

Through coaching, training, mentoring, and networking, participants acquire new skills and enhance their capacity to lead and transform their careers.

Benefits of the program

Successful applicants receive:

  1. One-on-One Coaching:
    • Create a three-to-five-year career roadmap with individual coaching sessions and follow-ups.
  2. Certified Media Management Training:
    • Training by regional and global experts on newsroom management, financial management, digital strategy, and the business of news.
  3. Gender Balance in Content Training:
    • Exposure to tools and tactics for achieving balanced and representative content.
  4. Managing Sexual Harassment Training:
    • Tools and procedures to address and prevent sexual harassment in the newsroom and the field.
  5. Leadership Hubs:
    • In-person and virtual gatherings for personal and career management strategies and professional networking.

Who can apply for the program?

The program targets mid- to senior-level editors and journalists with 2-3 years of experience in managing people or processes in the media sector, including print or digital newspapers, radio, and broadcast.

Inclusivity

The program welcomes all female-identifying and non-binary media professionals, recognizing that gender is not binary.
