Yousef Jameel GAPP Public Leadership Program 2024 (Fully-Funded)

With the overall goal of preparing young, capable Egyptian nationals for leadership roles in Egypt following the January 25 revolution and enhancing their capacity in public policy and administration, Yousef Jameel and the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) launched the Yousef Jameel public leadership program in May 2011.

Through the Yousef Jameel public leadership program, 300 fellows in 12 cohorts of 25 Egyptian graduate students are supported annually, and this will help to create a cadre of capable, educated graduates who are prepared to take on the duty of bringing about change in Egyptian society.

A limited number of outstanding applicants will be granted full fellowships to study for a master’s degree at American University Cairo in any of the following eight programs:

  • International Law and Justice Concerning Human Rights (MA).
  • Mass communication and journalism (MA).
  • Studies of the Middle East (MA).
  • Studies on Migration and Refugees, with a focus on Migration and Refugee Studies (MA).
  • International relations, with a focus on regional and international security as well as international cooperation within the framework of the Global System (MGA),.
  • Master’s degree in comparative and international law (LLM).
  • Public administration master’s degree (MPA).
  • Public policy master’s degree (MPP).


  • Tuition costs are covered by the fellowship.
  • A stipend is paid each month.
  • Payments for activities and services for students.
  • Health insurance and medical service costs.
  • English remediation classes.
  • Each semester, there is a book allowance.
  • Allowance for lodging for visitors to Cairo.
  • Transportation fees for buses.
  • AUC student exchange regulations allow for a semester-long study abroad option, including living and travel expenses.

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Available to citizens of Egypt.
  • A bachelor’s degree in science (pharmacy, medicine, computer science, chemistry, and other fields) or social sciences (business administration, management, political science, law, and other fields) from an authorized university.
  • A minimum grade-point average of 3.2 is required.
  • Meet the standards for AUC graduate admissions, which include having a passing score on the IELTS or the international TOEFL IBT.
  • Graduates from 2012 to 2022 must have a minimum of two and a maximum of twelve years of relevant professional job experience following the completion of their bachelor’s degree, preferably in public, nonprofit, or international development organisations.
  • Only those who have completed a maximum of 6 credit hours (2 courses) by September 2024 will be considered continuing students.
  • On an individual basis, candidates holding a bachelor of law (LLB) degree with a “good” grade may be taken into consideration for the selection procedure.

Fellows’ Responsibilities for Yousef Jameel GAPP Public Leadership Program 2024

  • Keep your GPA at least 3.2.
  • Attend a variety of extracurricular events and volunteer work that the department and the Jameel GAPP fellowship office have organized.
  • By the specified time, respond to any reporting requests that you receive from AUC. This could involve asking for pictures or information about your academic performance to be used in reports; it could also involve showing up to fellowship events and meetings, as well as any other events that the appropriate university departments want you to attend.


  • Step 1: Learn how to apply online for graduate admission at AUC. Then, submit the necessary paperwork along with the results of your English language exam, such as the TOEFL, IBT, or IELTS from the British Council or IDP.
  • Step 2: Students have two and a half years to get their master’s degrees, plus an optional semester spent studying abroad. Each semester, the fellowship is up for evaluation.
